Yes! I teach all ages.
Nope! No experience necessary. My classes are designed for absolute beginners. Many students don't have their own machines or haven't even taken their new sewing machine out of the box before they take a class with me. I also have students with some knowledge of sewing, but want a refresher, or need help understanding how to read a pattern, or finishing a project.
In all weekly, group classes (unless the class is defined as a specialty class, like costumes sewing) your first couple of classes will include learning:
Parts of a sewing machine
Names of useful sewing tools
How to sew a straight line
How to turn corners
How to sew curvy seams
Once you do some practice sewing to get familiar with the machine, you will work on 4 beginner projects to reinforce the techniques you learned and how to read patterns. I will provide the supplies for your first 4 small projects. After you successfully complete the 4 intro projects, you choose what projects you wish to make and provide all the supplies and materials. Everyone works at their own pace.
For all the group classes, we use the classroom sewing machines. This keeps classes running smoothly and fairly so that I don't spend class-time troubleshooting a student's machine that I'm not familiar with. If a student would like to learn how to use their own machine, we can schedule a private lesson.
TrishTacSew Sewing Classes start in September and conclude in May. They are perfect for beginner to intermediate seamstresses age 8 and up. Classes meet once per week for an hour and a half. We learn both hand-sewing and machine sewing techniques.
Make & Takes and Sewing Camps. Make & Takes are offered throughout the school year on Saturdays. Camps are offered during breaks and some holidays. I mainly follow the schedules of Desert Sands Unified School District . Camps meet for 4 half day session. Sessions meet in the am or the pm. Summer Camps are 4 days per week and meet for 3 hours each day.
Private classes, birthday parties and adult sip & sews are available too. If you or your child wishes to learn how to use your own machines contact me for a private lesson!
